Cape Town, South Africa — Ford Motor Company, with a century-long presence in South Africa, has launched a new pickup truck featuring an iconic signature from Nelson Mandela. The Silverton factory, a significant part of Ford’s global production network, has been instrumental in the company’s activities in the region. In 2025, Ford sold around 34,628 vehicles, reinforcing its status as one of the leading brands in South Africa.
Despite facing market challenges, Ford has sustained strong sales, particularly with the Ford Ranger, a highly popular pick — up model. The Ranger sold 25,465 units in 2025, a 0. 3% decrease from the previous year, yet it maintained its position as the second-best-selling pick-up in the country.
The new pickup truck is part of Ford’s broader social responsibility efforts in South Africa. In addition to its automotive operations, Ford has supported the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund (NMCF) by providing 19 vehicles to aid in community outreach programs. The NMCF, founded by Mandela, is dedicated to protecting and developing children across South Africa.
Dr. Linda Ncube-Nkomo, CEO of the NMCF, emphasized the importance of such partnerships in child protection and community strengthening. Ford’s commitment to South Africa goes beyond production, reflecting the company’s dedication to honoring Mandela’s legacy through investments in children’s well-being.
