An agricultural training workshop is underway in Gabon, specifically in the Ngounié region, aiming to improve the skills of young people and women in food product transformation. The event, held in the town of Mouila, is part of a broader initiative to strengthen the country’s agricultural sector and support local entrepreneurship.
The workshop, which kicked off recently, focuses on practical training in various aspects of agri — processing, including food safety, preservation, and value addition techniques. Participants are being taught how to transform locally-sourced agricultural products into marketable items, thereby enhancing their income-generating potential. “This training is crucial for the development of our region’s agriculture, “said one of the organizers, a local official who emphasized the importance of equipping young people and women with the necessary skills to contribute to Gabon’s economic growth.
The initiative is a collaborative effort involving government agencies, non — governmental organizations, and private sector entities. It is expected to benefit a significant number of participants, who will later be able to set up their own small businesses or work in existing agri-processing enterprises.
In addition to practical training, the workshop also includes sessions on business planning and marketing strategies, which are essential for the sustainability of any new venture. The program is designed to be interactive, allowing participants to engage with experts and peers, and to learn from hands-on experience. “This workshop is a stepping stone towards achieving food security and economic independence in our community, “said a participant, who is looking forward to applying her new skills in her home village.
