Senegal’s Lions of Teranga Ready for AFCON Showdown Against Botswana in Tangier. Dakar, Senegal — Senegal’s national football team, the Lions of Teranga, are in high spirits as they prepare for their opening match of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) against Botswana.
The team is currently in training, having won all six of their qualifying games and conceded just a single goal.
Their impressive form continued with a dominant 8-0 victory over Kenya in their last warm-up game before the tournament. This will be Senegal’s 18th appearance at the AFCON, and they are aiming to replicate their 2021 performance, which saw them reach the final.
The team has been in excellent form, most notably with a 3-0 victory over England in June.
The Lions of Teranga are looking to build on this momentum and take home the trophy.
On the other side of the pitch, Botswana will be hoping to rewrite history in their first AFCON appearance since 2012.
The Zebras have lost all three of their previous matches at the tournament and have faced a tough challenge against Senegal, losing both of their encounters in 2014 without scoring a goal.
The Group D match between Senegal and Botswana is set to take place at the Grand Stade de Tanger, with kick — off scheduled for 4 pm local time. Both teams will be giving their all in what promises to be an exciting encounter.
