Gabon’s GLT Acquires Newrest Gabon to Secure Employment and Continue Catering Services. PORT-GENTIL, Gabon — 6 February 2026 (AGP) – Gabon Loisirs et Tourisme (GLT), a 100% Gabonese-owned company, has announced the acquisition of Newrest Gabon, a subsidiary of the French group Newrest, to ensure job security and continue catering services, the Gabonese Press Agency reported.
The acquisition, which was confirmed by GLT’s Director General, Ange Poungou, is part of a restructuring effort to streamline the collective catering sector in Gabon.
The move comes as part of the company’s commitment to maintain the continuity of operations, preserve employment, and gradually stabilize the business, Poungou stated.
The acquisition agreement covers the transfer of both the assets and liabilities of the company, ensuring the sustainability of its operations.
According to the statement, the transaction aims to guarantee the continuity of operations, employment preservation, and the continuation of essential services in a sector deemed strategic to both public and private stakeholders.
The acquisition involves more than 300 employees across nine sites nationwide and covers collective catering and associated services with an annual turnover of over 10 billion CFA francs.
Gabon Loisirs et Tourisme, with over 15 years of existence, specializes in catering services, employing over 600 staff. Poungou emphasized that the acquisition of Newrest Gabon is a significant responsibility for the group, acknowledging the challenging current economic climate.
He underlined the importance of organized and pragmatic responses to ensure the continuity of activities and employment.
