Lagos, Nigeria — President Bola Tinubu has authorized the expansion of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (PiCNG) to encompass electric vehicles, renaming it the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (PiCNG & EV).
This strategic shift, as detailed in a statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, will see the Executive Chairman of PiCNG & EV, Ismael Ahmed, implement a coordinated strategy for the swift distribution of vehicle conversion kits. The aim is to make these kits affordable and accessible to Nigerians.
The initiative will also focus on developing and deploying electric vehicles and charging infrastructure. PiCNG & EV is set to collaborate with financial institutions and CreditCorp Nigeria to create financing solutions that facilitate vehicle conversions for the public.
Furthermore, President Tinubu has ordered the deployment of Mobile Refuelling Units (MRUs) to increase CNG accessibility, complementing permanent infrastructure development. This effort is part of a larger plan to promote affordable, efficient, and eco-friendly mobility options.
