Libreville, Gabon — In an effort to enhance public understanding and promote transparency, the Grande Chancellerie des Ordres Nationaux of Gabon has commenced a series of informational meetings across the nation. Led by the Director-General, Colonel Guy Roger Bignoumba Mapangou, the Grande Chancellerie has been tasked with clarifying the roles and specifics of its honors system, which includes the Ordre de l’Étoile équatoriale and the Ordre du Mérite Gabonais.
The director emphasized the need for public awareness, stating that the mission was to “explain in depth the role and organization of these honors.”Established in 1959, the Grande Chancellerie has been instrumental in recognizing the nation’s distinguished citizens. Individuals eligible for these honors must be Gabonese citizens without a criminal record, aged at least 29, and with at least nine years of professional experience.
Applications require a judicial record extract, a legalized birth certificate, and two identity photos. The campaign, which includes the distribution of titles to recipients of 2025 decorations, aims to foster a deeper understanding of the honor system.
As the transitional government continues to reform, the Grande Chancellerie’s initiative is seen as a pivotal step in ensuring a fair and transparent honor system that resonates with the Gabonese public.
