Kenya Raises Alert Over Forced Recruitment for Russian Army. Nairobi, Kenya — The Kenyan government has sounded the alarm over the alleged forced recruitment of Kenyan citizens for service in the Russian army.
According to local reports, several Kenyans have been enticed with job offers in Russia, only to find themselves enrolled in military camps and sent to the Ukrainian front.
The Kenyan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, revealed that over 200 Kenyans are currently serving in the Russian army, with recruitment networks active in both Kenya and Russia. These networks reportedly employ deceptive tactics, including false job offers and manipulated travel arrangements, to lure Kenyans into the conflict.
However, upon arrival in Russia, they were reportedly enrolled in the army and deployed to the Ukrainian battlefield, where some have suffered injuries or gone missing.
In response, the Kenyan authorities have initiated an investigation to shed light on these incidents and ensure the protection of Kenyan citizens abroad.
The government has also announced measures to strengthen regulations on recruitment agencies and safeguard Kenyans from exploitation. It is important to note that Kenya does not tolerate the illegal recruitment of its citizens for foreign conflicts and is working to repatriate Kenyans in difficult situations overseas.
The situation underscores the challenges faced by countries in combating human trafficking and forced recruitment, particularly in the context of international conflicts. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
