The Minister of the Interior, Adrien Nguema Mba, has delivered a stern warning to the newly appointed Mayor of Libreville, Eugène Mba, against the recruitment of relatives within his administration. This caution came during the official handover ceremony with outgoing Mayor, Matthieu Obame Etoughe, according to the Gabonese Press Agency (AGP).
In his remarks, Minister Mba highlighted his own experience as a former mayor of Libreville, emphasizing that there are ample skilled individuals available to support the new mayor without the need for nepotistic hiring. “I do not want to see family members around you at the Hôtel de Ville. There are enough competencies here to assist you, as I am aware, “Mba stated.
Mba also called for improved collaboration between the city hall and municipal districts, criticizing the inadequate resources allocated to these districts. He urged for a more effective decentralization of services, including human resources, to the arrondissements, and expressed disappointment with the current alignment of the Libreville City Council’s action plan with the National Growth and Development Plan.
The Minister’s warning comes amidst the city’s recent financial turmoil, marked by the resignation of the previous mayor due to allegations of mismanagement and budgetary discrepancies.
As the capital city, Libreville’s governance is of critical importance to national stability and economic progress.
