Lagos, Nigeria — Senator David Mark, the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has slammed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for its handling of Nigeria’s escalating security crisis. Addressing the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) in Abuja, Mark argued that the ADC is better equipped to tackle the nation’s insecurity issues.
Mark cited the rise in kidnappings and violence as evidence of the APC’s failure to secure the country. “Nigeria is now plagued by unrelenting insecurity, kidnappings, and violence, which have become the new norm, “he. “The APC has demonstrated its incompetence in addressing this situation.”.
The ADC chairman emphasized the need for a new approach, advocating for the ADC to take the lead in restoring peace and stability. “Our party, the ADC, must step forward to address these ills. We are prepared to make Nigeria a better and safer society, “Mark declared.
In addition to Mark’s remarks, the ADC NEC has set dates for state congresses and the national convention, signaling the party’s commitment to internal restructuring and renewal. Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary, announced that the polling unit and ward congresses will be held on April 7, followed by Local Government Congresses on April 9, state congresses on April 11, and the National Convention on April 14, all in Abuja.
Meanwhile, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Olufemi Oluyede highlighted the importance of local arms production in combating terrorism and banditry in Nigeria and West Africa. Speaking at the Joint Doctrine and Warfare Centre (JDWC) in Abuja, Oluyede stressed the need for indigenous manufacturing to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers and ensure timely access to military equipment.
The ADC’s criticism of the APC’s security policies and its plans for a national convention come amidst ongoing concerns about the country’s security situation. The party’s call for a change in approach could resonate with Nigerians weary of the current state of affairs.
