DeAfrica’s AI Course Empowers African Learners for the Digital Future. City, Country — Johannesburg, South Africa — DeAfrica, a leader in online education across Africa, has recently concluded its seven-week course, “ChatGPT: Your New Thinking Partner.”
The program, which ran from late September to late November 2025, aimed to make artificial intelligence (AI) practical and accessible to everyday work and learning.
More than 1,300 participants from 43 African countries enrolled, reflecting a significant step towards equipping the continent’s learners with the skills needed for the digital age.
The course, designed to treat AI as a thinking partner rather than a distant or intimidating force, focused on enhancing communication, productivity, and decision — making skills. Participants, spanning various professional backgrounds and connectivity levels, emphasized the course’s relevance and practicality.
Assignments encouraged clear writing, idea organization, and the creative use of AI tools, fostering critical reflection on limitations and ethics.
Ed Breaux of the Democrify Foundation, the course’s instructor, emphasized the integration of AI into human judgment, creativity, and responsibility. This approach resonated with learners who recognize the potential for technology to both narrow and widen inequalities.
DeAfrica’s president and founder, Sidiki Traore, noted that the organization’s long-term vision is to build ecosystems of learning that blend technical skill, critical thinking, and entrepreneurial insight.
The ChatGPT course is a testament to this vision, as it signifies a shift towards advanced digital learning that is no longer confined by geography. Google’s recent contribution of $37 million towards Africa’s AI advancement further underscores the global tech giant’s commitment to supporting the continent’s development.
This investment is expected to establish new programs and an AI Community Center, fostering innovative AI research and practical applications.
DeAfrica’s upcoming program, “Your Journey in the AI Economy, Skills for Work, Learning, and Life, “scheduled for February 18, 2026, builds on the success of the ChatGPT course. It aims to help individuals adapt, reskill, and remain relevant in an AI-driven economy.
As certificates are distributed across Africa, they signify a growing movement of learners preparing for, shaping, and defining the future of an inclusive AI — driven world.
