Freetown, Sierra Leone — The All People’s Congress has transferred Le350,000 to the Political Parties Regulation Commission, bringing a six-day suspension to an end, local authorities confirmed on Wednesday. Official statements indicate the payment settles a sanction imposed on 2 February after public comments attributed to APC member Zainab Sheriff were judged to breach conduct rules set out in the 2022 Political Parties Act.
The Commission had barred the party from meetings, rallies and internal operations once a 10 February deadline lapsed, warning that continued non-compliance could draw further penalties.
In correspondence received after the cutoff, the party’s national secretary general, Lansana Dumbuya, told the regulator that Sheriff spoke in a personal capacity and had signalled she would sue if the APC accepted liability.
The PPRC maintained that the party bears legal responsibility for utterances by its members under Section 39 of the Act, and said reminders were issued before the suspension took effect.
The Commission has now cleared the APC to resume activities and urged leaders to keep supporters within the law.
The party has released no separate comment since the payment was verified. Enacted as part of post-war reforms, the Act empowers the PPRC to levy fines or halt party work where actions are deemed to threaten public order or national cohesion. Officials have not outlined any next steps, and further details on the remarks that triggered the case remain undisclosed.
