CAR Presidential Campaign Launches Amid Tension and Promises of Peace Bangui, Central African Republic — The Central African Republic (CAR) has officially commenced its election campaign ahead of the presidential vote scheduled for December 28, 2025. Incumbent President Faustin-Archange Touadéra led the charge, launching his campaign on Saturday, December 13, at Bangui’s Omnisports Stadium. Touadéra, returning from the town of Sibut, where he had earlier announced his re-election bid, was met with a cheering crowd.
His campaign team is optimistic about a strong voter turnout in the first round. Igor Tola Kogadou, a candidate for the National Assembly from the ruling United Hearts Movement (MCU), praised the scale of support for the president, emphasizing the population’s mobilization for the election.
The incumbent president is positioning himself as the guardian of stability.
His supporters cite his record on peace and the prospect of a return to lasting stability as reasons to re — elect him. Josiane Nina Bemakassui, former Minister of Humanitarian Action, expressed the population’s desire for peace under Touadéra’s leadership.
Opposition presidential candidate Anicet — Georges Dologuélé, on the other hand, unveiled a platform centered around 25 social pillars.
His focus is on building a strong state and revitalizing the nation’s economy. Dologuélé, who also announced the support of Serge Bokassa, a former minister who had previously aligned with Touadéra, accused the authorities of manipulating nationality issues and undermining democratic institutions.
The campaign period, which extends for two weeks, is taking place against a backdrop of high tension, according to the United Nations.
Concerns over security, political polarization, and the risk of violence are prevalent.
However, all main candidates, including President Touadéra, have called for a peaceful and orderly campaign. Further details regarding the campaign’s outcome and its implications for the country’s stability are expected as the campaign progresses.
