Video: New President of Senegal Bassirou Diomaye Faye Takes Oath

Aged 44, Senegalese opposition figure Bassirou Diomaye Faye became the youngest President in the country’s history. He was elected in the first round, receiving 54.28% of the votes.

Bassirou Diomaye Faye, new President of Senegal, takes oath. The site of the inauguration ceremony is the Abdou Diouf International Center in Diamniadio (Cicad).

Among the African heads of states present at the ceremony were Mauritania’s President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani; Ghanian leader Nana Akufo-Addo; President of The Gambia Adama Barrow; Guinea’s head of state Mamadi Doumbouya; as well as President of Guinea-Bissau Umaro Sissoco Embalo.

On March 24, Senegal held presidential elections, originally scheduled for February 25, but postponed by the country’s former President Macky Sall.
