Central African Republic’s humanitarian crisis: UNFPA calls for $13. 2 million to aid vulnerable populations. BANGUI, Central African Republic – The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is sounding the alarm over the escalating humanitarian crisis in the Central African Republic (CAR), urging for $13.
2 million to support critical life-saving services.
The crisis is a stark testament to the impact of ongoing regional instability, which has displaced 59,100 refugees and 427,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs), with 2. 3 million people in dire need of assistance. Women and children, accounting for 81% of refugees and asylum seekers, are among the most vulnerable.
The appeal is targeted at providing essential sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services to 129,150 people and GBV prevention and response services to 118,200 individuals.
As of March 2026, only 16% of the required funding has been secured, leaving a significant gap that hinders the expansion of vital health and protection services. This funding gap underscores the urgent need for international support to alleviate the suffering in CAR.
The UNFPA’s appeal is not just a call for resources but a plea for attention to the plight of those affected by the humanitarian crisis, especially women and children, who bear the brunt of the region’s instability and its consequences.
