Mogadishu, Somalia — On Thursday, the Somali National Army’s Joint Operations Coordination Center held a workshop, initiated by the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) department under the leadership of officer Iman Mahmoud Ali.
The event, which focused on civilian protection during operations against Al — Shabaab, was opened by the commander, Mohamed Ali Bariise. Bariise highlighted the military’s dedication to the safety of civilians amidst ongoing security operations, noting the difficult humanitarian situations exacerbated by Al-Shabaab attacks. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the protection and support of non-combatants, especially during targeted military actions.
The Somali National Army is also committed to assisting communities in areas recently cleared of Al — Shabaab influence, viewing civilian protection as essential for building trust and cooperation with residents.
