Senegal to Increase Public Investment in Education, Health, and Water for 2026 Dakar, Senegal — President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has announced a significant expansion of public investment for the 2026 fiscal year, prioritizing the sectors of education, healthcare, and water infrastructure.
The commitments were detailed in a national address delivered on New Year’s Eve, setting a roadmap for the country’s development goals over the next twelve months.
According to official statements, the Senegalese government intends to allocate 62.
8 billion CFA francs toward the development of educational infrastructure.
A primary component of this funding is the planned construction of 2,500 new classrooms nationwide. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve access to schooling and modernize the country’s learning environments.
In the healthcare sector, the government has designated a budget of 91 billion CFA francs. Official reports indicate that these funds will support the construction of 35 high-standard community health centers.
Additionally, the investment is intended to finalize the Diamniadio Oncology Hospital and provide necessary upgrades to medical facilities across the country.
The president also identified water access as a strategic priority for 2026.
The government plans to launch the Grand Water Transfer Project, an initiative designed to mobilize 1. 8 million cubic meters of water daily.
