Durban, South Africa — Provincial traffic officers have arrested 27 motorists on suspicion of driving under the influence along the uMhlanga Rocks and Durban North corridor, KwaZulu-Natal transport authorities confirmed ahead of the Easter holiday.
The Department of Transport says the overnight sweep, conducted ahead of the long — weekend travel surge, forms part of annual stepped-up patrols that traditionally begin one week before Easter.
All 27 drivers were taken into custody after roadside alcohol screening; charges have been laid and court dates will follow, officials added.
No casualty figures or collision statistics were released with the arrest tally. The department said operations will continue through the weekend.
