ABUJA, NIGERIA — Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare is set to host a high-level health security dialogue in Abuja on Monday, focusing on pandemic preparedness and response. The event, titled “Lessons on Pandemic Preparedness and Response: Insights from China and Nigeria, “is a collaborative effort to bring together senior government officials, global health institutions, policymakers, and scientists from both nations.
The dialogue is timely, as countries worldwide seek to bolster their readiness for future health threats in the wake of the COVID — 19 pandemic. It aims to exchange practical lessons and promote cooperation in constructing more resilient health systems.
Assistant Director, Information & Public Relations, Ado Bako, emphasized that the discussions will center on enhancing disease surveillance, emergency response coordination, health system resilience, community trust, and risk communication. The engagement will also explore ways to deepen Nigeria-China cooperation in public health research, laboratory systems, technology transfer, and coordinated responses to cross-border health threats.
The anticipated outcomes of the meeting include policy recommendations to strengthen pandemic preparedness, enhanced bilateral collaboration between Nigeria and China, and strategic insights to guide national and global health security priorities. The event will feature presentations by senior government officials, a keynote address by a leading global health expert, and panel discussions with Nigerian and international experts.
