Mogadishu, Somalia — The Somali National Army (SNA) has announced the full reopening of the vital Baidoa-Mogadishu highway following a series of clearance operations that targeted Al-Shabaab terrorist elements. Military officials have confirmed the successful securing of the extensive route, which is crucial for supply lines and transportation between the capital and the southwestern regions of Somalia.
In parallel efforts, security forces have commenced stabilization operations in Baidoa, focusing on mitigating the risks posed by militia groups that were previously aligned with the former regional administration. The SNA’s entry into the city was met with welcoming gestures from residents, alongside officials from the Federal Government of Somalia and the Southwest State security forces, who had previously opposed the former administration’s alleged affiliations with Al-Shabaab.
A substantial number of Baidoa residents gathered in neighborhoods and surrounding areas to express their relief and support for the national forces’actions in dismantling the militant presence in their communities.
The strategic reopening of the highway is a pivotal moment in the ongoing stabilization efforts in the region, which has long been challenged by Al — Shabaab’s activities. The Federal Government of Somalia’s dedication to bolstering regional security is exemplified by the support it provides to the SNA in these critical operations.
