Nairobi, Kenya — The Federal Government of Somalia has taken a substantial step towards improving public services for its citizens abroad by inaugurating a new National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) office at the Somali Embassy in Nairobi. This event marks a significant advancement in providing essential services to Somali citizens living outside their homeland.
The ceremony, which was officiated by Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya, Ambassador Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, and the Director of NIRA, Abdiweli Ali Abdulle, was attended by a gathering of diplomats and senior officials. During the event, Mr. Abdiweli Ali Abdulle highlighted the expansion of NIRA’s operations and announced that the Nairobi embassy would be the 30th office established by the NIRA Office.
The primary objective of this new office is to simplify access to national identification services for Somali citizens residing in Kenya, thereby reducing the need for them to travel to Somalia for documentation. Ambassador Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle noted that the initiative will enable the Somali community in Kenya to obtain identity cards directly from the embassy, enhancing service delivery and engagement with the Somali diaspora.
The establishment of the NIRA office in Nairobi is expected to streamline processes for Somali citizens, facilitate their integration into Kenyan society, and demonstrate the Somali government’s commitment to effectively addressing the rights and needs of its diaspora.
