Mogadishu, 2 Apr – Somalia and Sudan have agreed to scrap visa requirements for each other’s diplomatic-passport holders, the two foreign ministries said on Tuesday, sealing the measure during a bilateral consultation session in the Somali capital.
The exemption, endorsed at the second Somalia — Sudan Political Consultation Committee, removes immigration hurdles for officials travelling between the Horn of Africa and Sahel neighbours, according to a statement carried by state-run news agency SONNA.
Senior delegates — led for Somalia by Permanent Secretary Hamza Adan Haadow and for Sudan by Foreign Affairs Under-secretary Ambassador Muawiya Osman Khalid—also reviewed joint work in politics, trade, education and capacity-building, the communique added.
No further implementation timetables or wider travel relaxations were announced; both sides pledged “enhanced coordination” on regional and multilateral files, the agency reported.
