LIBREVILLE, 6 avril 2026 (AGP) – The United States is set to enhance its security cooperation in North Africa with the establishment of a drone training center in Rabat, Morocco, reports the African Press Agency. The project aims to equip several African armies with specialized operational skills in drone usage, leveraging Moroccan infrastructure, which is considered a strategic ally of Washington.
The announcement was made by General Christopher Donahue, commander of U. S. Forces in Europe and Africa, during the recent African Land Forces Summit (SETAF) in Rome.
General Donahue specified that the initial deployment of the program will coincide with the 2026 edition of the “Africa Lion “military exercise. These large-scale maneuvers, scheduled for April and May, will take place concurrently in Morocco, Tunisia, Ghana, and Senegal.
This initiative is part of a broader reorganization of the U. S. Military presence on the continent.
General Dagvin Anderson, chief of AFRICOM, emphasized during his Senate testimony that Rabat is set to play a central role in Washington’s strategy.
