Gabon’s Samu Social Resumes Free Services After 72-Hour Hiatus. Libreville, Gabon — 28 February 2026 (AGP) – The Gabonese Samu Social has resumed its free medical assistance services following a 72-hour suspension, the Gabonese Press Agency reported.
The suspension, which began on Wednesday, February 25, was intended to conduct an internal assessment of available resources and ensure that care met required standards, according to a statement signed by the unit’s medical director, Dr.
Wenceslas Yaba.
The resumption of operations was announced on Saturday, February 28, with services restarting at 7 PM local time.
The public can once again access the service through the toll — free number 1488, which is available 24 hours a day.
The temporary halt in services was necessitated by the need to evaluate the state of the Samu Social’s resources and ensure that the services provided are in line with the expected standards of care, the statement explained.
The organization aims to continue providing efficient and effective emergency medical services to the Gabonese population. Further details regarding the outcomes of the inventory and any changes in service delivery were not immediately available.
The public is advised to stay tuned for updates from the Samu Social.
