Gabon’s Vice-President Discusses Road Infrastructure with Sector Ministers. LIBREVILLE, Gabon — 11 February 2026 (AGP) – Vice-President of the Gabonese Government, Hermann Immongault, held a meeting with sector ministers on Wednesday to discuss the operations of the Autonomous National Road Maintenance and Investment Fund (FANEIR), according to the Gabonese Press Agency.
The meeting, which took place at Immongault’s cabinet, focused on strategies and actions to improve road maintenance and safety across the nation.
It is part of the government’s efforts to modernize road infrastructure and ensure effective monitoring of public works projects.
In February 2025, the Council of Ministers adopted the FANEIR, which complements and replaces the Autonomous National Road Maintenance Fund (FANER).
The FANEIR’s scope has been expanded to include road construction, maintenance, and development, the vice-president noted.
Immongault also mentioned the establishment of the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (FNI), housed within the Gabonese Strategic Investments Fund (FGIS). He highlighted that the coexistence of these funds has led to operational difficulties and resource mobilization challenges, impacting the Ministry of Public Works’ability to fulfill its missions. “Without roads, nothing is possible.
Development passes through road infrastructure, “declared Hermann Immongault, emphasizing the cross-cutting nature of government projects that require appropriate infrastructure for implementation. He cited the ban on importing chicken meat, which necessitates the construction of abattoirs and, therefore, the availability of water, energy, and road infrastructure, as well as the project for a central purchasing hub requiring land transport of products within the country.
The Minister of Public Works pointed out that the FANEIR, under his department’s tutelage, is facing difficulties related to the partial availability of certain resources and irregular returns of the Road User Charge (RUR), the main source of funding for the maintenance of the national road network.
This issue, previously discussed at the Inter — Ministerial Council, led the vice-president to become involved in examining solutions as soon as possible with the ministers responsible for Economy and Budget. At the end of the discussions, Hermann Immongault emphasized the need to strengthen road maintenance to ensure user safety and facilitate circulation across the national territory.
Further details are expected.
