Cameroon’s National Salvation Front Affirms Non-Participation in Upcoming Elections. Buea, Cameroon — The Cameroon National Salvation Front (FSNC) has firmly reiterated its decision not to participate in the upcoming legislative and municipal elections, labeling the electoral process as a “sham “that does not represent the will of the Cameroonian people. Officials commented on the matter.
The FSNC argues that the necessary conditions for democratic, transparent, and peaceful elections are not in place.
The clarification follows confusion in political circles after Alice Nkom, spokesperson for the party’s national president, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, seemed to suggest the party might reconsider its position.
The FSNC maintains that participating in the electoral process under the current conditions would be to endorse an outcome it considers predetermined.
Elh Moussa Firissou stated, “For the FSNC, to take part in these elections would be to endorse an electoral charade.”
The party further asserts that key guarantees, including the protection of universal suffrage and respect for the expressed will of voters, are absent.
The FSNC will not reconsider its stance until such guarantees are provided.
The Cameroon National Salvation Front’s decision adds to ongoing debates over the credibility of Cameroon’s electoral process, particularly following the contested presidential election of 2025. Several opposition voices have raised concerns over electoral transparency, while others have chosen to participate in institutions despite misgivings.
