Gabon to End Chicken Imports by 2027; Globaltec Proposes Six Production Units. Libreville, Gabon — February 20, 2026 — Gabon’s Minister of Industry and Local Transformation, Me Lubin Ntoutoume, met with the Spanish firm Globaltec Ingeniería to discuss a project aimed at ending the country’s chicken import dependency by 2027, according to the Gabonese Press Agency. Globaltec, which has operations in Kenya, Angola, and across strategic sectors including agriculture and renewable energy, proposed the construction of six poultry production units across Gabon.
These units will encompass the entire value chain, from abattoirs to cold chain logistics and feed production, with each unit projected to produce up to 7,000 tonnes annually. Gabon currently imports nearly 65,000 tonnes of chicken per year, while domestic production stands at approximately 4,000 tonnes.
The new units are expected to significantly reduce importation levels.
Minister Ntoutoume emphasized that the project aligns with the government’s strategy and President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema’s directives.
The government is committed to facilitating the partnership by providing land and fiscal and customs incentives. Technical teams are tasked with expediting the finalization of outstanding points to allow for the imminent signing of a memorandum of understanding.
Globaltec also highlighted that “Made in Gabon “chicken will adhere to pricing set by authorities, contributing to the national effort against high living costs.
Further details are expected to be announced as the partnership progresses.
