Gabon Introduces Hotline to Combat Roadside Rackets. LIBREVILLE, Gabon — The Gabonese Gendarmerie nationale has launched a new initiative to combat roadside racketeering, including the establishment of a toll-free hotline for citizens to report incidents, according to the Gabonese Press Agency.
The move comes amid growing concerns over the prevalence of such crimes on the nation’s roads.
The Gendarmerie nationale’s chief command announced the new measures, which include a ban on the exchange of money without receipts and the provision of toll-free numbers for reporting suspicious activities.
The numbers are 1401, 011732036, and 011762280. Officials commented on the matter.
The announcement also highlights the role of some irregular road users in facilitating such crimes. “
A law — abiding road user has no valid reason to give money to an officer.
The mission of road traffic police cannot be diverted for personal or commercial purposes.
Any behavior contrary to the ethics and deontology of the Gendarmerie nationale will not be tolerated, “the command emphasized.
The introduction of the hotline is part of the Gendarmerie nationale’s broader efforts to improve road safety and security.
The initiative is expected to enhance public confidence in the police force and reduce the incidence of roadside racketeering. Further details are expected as the program is rolled out across the country.
