Luanda, Angola — 15 December 2025 DP World Announces Expansion of ‘Solar Mamas’ Programme to Angola. DP World, a global leader in logistics, has announced the expansion of its ‘Solar Mamas’initiative to Angola, marking the first time the programme has been introduced in the country.
The initiative, in partnership with Barefoot College International (BCI), aims to empower rural women by providing them with solar engineering skills.
Four women from Kwanza Sul, a province in Angola, have successfully completed a three — month training course at BCI’s Training Academy in Dakar, Senegal. This brings the total number of women trained across sub-Saharan Africa through the Solar Mamas programme to 32.
The Solar Mamas programme equips women with hands — on training in basic solar engineering, enabling them to become solar technicians and community energy leaders.
The training not only teaches them how to install, operate, and maintain solar power systems but also builds their confidence as local leaders. Esha Mansingh, Head of Corporate Affairs & Sustainability for sub-Saharan Africa at DP World, highlighted the importance of the initiative: “This initiative plays a vital role in DP World’s overarching strategy to promote sustainable development and empower local communities, with a particular focus on women and education.”
The expansion to Angola is part of DP World’s commitment to developing holistic solutions to enhance women’s lives, combat poverty, and foster sustainable communities.
It is also a response to the global challenge of around one billion people lacking access to electricity, many of whom live in rural areas. Karine Sar, Director of BCI in Senegal, emphasized the transformative power of the programme: “The fact that uneducated rural African women can, in the span of three months, become trained as solar technicians is a testament to what we, as women, can accomplish when we take charge of reshaping and improving society.”
The first Solar Mamas project in Angola under the DP World Luanda partnership reinforces a long — term commitment to inclusion, clean energy, and community growth.
It marks the beginning of a sustainable, inclusive future for rural communities in Kwanza Sul and beyond. DP World is reshaping the future of global trade to improve lives everywhere, operating across six continents with a team of over 125,000 employees.
In sub — Saharan Africa, DP World employs more than 31,000 people and operates in 48 markets.
Further details regarding the next phase of the Solar Mamas programme in Angola are expected to be announced in the coming months.
