Lagos, Nigeria — Boxing Star Anthony Joshua Survives Tragic Road Crash. Lagos, Nigeria — December 29, 2025 — British heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has survived a harrowing road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Nigeria, where two other occupants of the vehicle were killed.
The former world champion suffered only minor injuries and is currently in stable condition at a local hospital.
According to Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), a Lexus Jeep carrying five adult men, including Joshua, was traveling at high speed when it lost control during an attempted overtake.
The vehicle veered off the road and collided with a stationary truck parked along the roadside.
The impact was fatal for two of the passengers, while the others, including Joshua, were injured but survived.
The accident occurred on Monday morning in Sagamu, Ogun State, a town with which Joshua has family ties.
An eyewitness, Adeniyi Orojo, told local newspaper The Punch that Joshua was seated in the back of the Lexus behind the driver. He was part of a group traveling in a separate vehicle that followed them until the crash.
Photos and videos shared online show the severely damaged Lexus, with Joshua seen in the back seat, surrounded by shattered glass.
In some videos, he can be seen grimacing as he attempts to escape the wreckage. Regional officials confirmed the incident and Joshua’s injuries in a statement.
Police commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo emphasized the need for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Road safety officials have launched an inquiry, with excessive speed suspected as the primary cause of the accident. Joshua had been in Nigeria following his recent fight against Jake Paul on December 19.
He had posted a video on Instagram earlier in the morning, showing him playing table tennis, but the location of this video has not been confirmed.
Further updates on Joshua’s condition and the ongoing investigation are expected once details are finalized.
