Lagos, Nigeria — The African Union Commission (AUC) has warmly welcomed the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of Resolution A/80/L.48. This resolution, led by the Republic of Ghana, recognizes the trafficking of enslaved Africans and racialized chattel enslavement as the gravest crime against humanity.
The AUC Chairperson expressed gratitude to Ghana for its pivotal role in advancing Africa’s long quest for truth and justice regarding the transatlantic slave trade. The AUC has reiterated its dedication to comprehensively acknowledging both historical and contemporary impacts of slavery, aligning with Agenda 2063 and African Union Assembly decisions.
