Sudan’s RSF Reports Capture of Town in Darfur Amid Ongoing Conflict. City, Country — February 22, 2026 The Sudanese paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has claimed to have captured another town in the Darfur region, according to social media posts that include video footage.
The town, identified as al — Tina, is located near the border with Chad in North Darfur state.
However, several media outlets report that the Sudanese army and its allied Joint Forces repelled an attack on the town on Saturday.
The RSF’s assertion of victory in al-Tina comes amidst an ongoing conflict with the Sudanese army that began nearly three years ago.
The war has escalated into one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, with estimates suggesting tens of thousands have been killed.
The United Nations indicates that approximately 11 million people have been displaced from their homes due to the conflict. Pro-army governor of Darfur, Minni Arko Minawi, termed the assault on al-Tina as “repeated criminal behaviour embodying the worst offences against the innocent.”Since capturing the capital of North Darfur, al-Fasher, in October, the RSF has conducted several operations near the Chad border.
The United Nations’independent fact-finding mission on Sudan recently declared the RSF’s takeover of the town as having “the hallmarks of genocide.”
The RSF currently controls five Darfur states, with the exception of parts of North Darfur still under army control.
The military, in turn, retains control over most of the remaining states, including the capital, Khartoum.
The RSF’s claims of capturing al-Tina coincided with talks between its leader, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, and Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni in Entebbe, aimed at resolving the conflict in Sudan.
The situation remains tense, with further developments expected. Further details are expected to emerge as the situation continues to unfold.
According to sources, the conflict has deepened the humanitarian crisis in the region.
