Gabon to Implement Digital Driving Licenses. LIBREVILLE, Gabon — 3 February 2026 (AGP) – The Gabonese Ministry of Transport, Merchant Marine, and Logistics has announced the imminent introduction of a digital driving license, a move aimed at modernizing the management of driving permits and enhancing security across the nation, according to the Gabonese Press Agency.
The digital permit initiative, part of the Gabon Digital program, seeks to alleviate administrative burdens, combat fraud and falsifications, and ensure the secure management of driver data nationwide.
The project is led by the General Directorate of Road Transport (DGTT) with technical support from the National Agency for Digital Infrastructures and Frequencies (ANINF). This development is a significant step for Gabon in aligning with international standards for road safety and digital governance.
The government’s decision to digitize driving licenses is expected to streamline the permit issuance process and provide a more secure system for both authorities and drivers.
The digital driving license is set to bring several benefits, including easier access to driving records, reduced instances of fraudulent licenses, and a more efficient administrative process. It also underscores Gabon’s commitment to embracing digital solutions to improve public services.
The project is currently in its final stages of preparation, with plans to roll out the new system in the coming weeks.
The government has not yet specified a date for the official launch but has emphasized the importance of ensuring a smooth transition for all drivers.
As part of the modernization efforts, the DGTT and ANINF are working closely with various stakeholders, including driving schools and transport authorities, to ensure a seamless integration of the digital driving license into existing systems. Further details regarding the implementation process and training for officials are expected to be released in the coming days.
