Rabat — Veron Mosengo-Omba, the Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has resigned from his position, effective immediately. The Swiss-Congolese official, who took office in 2021, announced his decision on March 29, stating his intention to concentrate on personal endeavors. Mosengo-Omba’s resignation coincides with the ongoing scrutiny of CAF’s governance and internal management practices.
Mosengo — Omba’s tenure was marred by allegations of governance issues, including concerns over decision-making processes and the concentration of power. Despite facing these challenges, he remained in his role, even as his age reached the extended retirement limit set by CAF rules. A private independent investigation in 2025 cleared him of any wrongdoing, which he cited as a significant factor in his decision to step down.
During his time at CAF, Mosengo — Omba accumulated a wealth of experience, having previously served at FIFA. His departure may prompt changes within the organization, as CAF seeks to address the governance concerns that have emerged during his leadership.
