A suspected hitman was killed during a shootout with police in Durban on Wednesday. Authorities cornered the 41-year-old suspect at a hideout in Pinetown after he allegedly opened fire on officers attempting to arrest him.

The man had been wanted in connection with over 10 murder cases across the province. It is believed he was planning an attack on officials of the Umdoni Local Municipality. Firearms were recovered from the scene.
