JUBA, South Sudan — The situation in South Sudan grows increasingly dire as the latest Situation Report No. 69, issued on 24th March 2026, reveals a worsening cholera outbreak. The report indicates that the epidemic has spread across multiple communities, posing a significant threat to public health.
The report attributes the outbreak to the country’s lack of adequate sanitation and access to clean water, which has been compounded by the challenging living conditions prevalent in many areas. In response, health workers are distributing chlorinated water and conducting hygiene education to combat the spread of the disease, particularly in urban areas where inadequate infrastructure exacerbates the problem.
International assistance is being sought to bolster the country’s healthcare system, which is under immense pressure. The World Health Organization (WHO) and other agencies are deploying resources to support the response efforts, including medical supplies and personnel. However, the outbreak shows no signs of slowing down, with new cases being reported regularly.
The ongoing crisis highlights the urgency for investment in infrastructure and public health systems in South Sudan, emphasizing the need for long — term solutions to prevent such outbreaks in the future.
