MOGADISHU (SONNA) — The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) of Somalia, in collaboration with international security partners, has successfully neutralized two senior commanders of the Khawaarij network through precision strikes in the Middle Juba and Lower Shabelle regions. The operations, conducted on March 19 and March 15, targeted key figures within the organization, including Abdihamid Ali Abdullahi Maalim and Suleyman Omar Fidow.
Maalim, a high — value target, was a pivotal figure in connecting the domestic Khawaarij insurgency with international terrorist syndicates. He was responsible for the illegal procurement and smuggling of weaponry and explosives, crucial to the group’s asymmetric attacks on civilian and government targets.
Fidow, a known commander within the militant ranks, was poised to assume command of the explosives and militant indoctrination divisions following the elimination of the former explosives chief. His removal disrupts the Khawaarij network’s command structure and logistical capabilities.
These targeted strikes reflect the Federal Government’s strategy to dismantle the hierarchical structure of terrorist networks within Somalia. By eliminating experienced tacticians and logistical coordinators, NISA and its allies are fracturing the command-and-control capabilities of the militants.
The national security apparatus is fully committed to exploiting these leadership vacuums and accelerating the stabilization of affected regions. The ongoing efforts of the national security forces are aimed at maintaining peace and security in Somalia. Further details on the aftermath and next steps of the counter-terrorism campaign are anticipated.
