Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, presided over the 35th Ordinary Session of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Council of Ministers in Mogadishu today.
The session, which marks the culmination of six days of intensive discussions, gathered defense leadership from across the region to deliberate on collective security strategies. During the high-level gathering, Minister Fiqi emphasized the strategic importance of the EASF in the current regional security landscape.
He highlighted the organization’s role in conflict prevention, peace enforcement, stabilization operations, and post-conflict reconstruction.
The Minister also underscored the need for robust operational synergy with the African Union, the United Nations, and other international partners.
In a significant legislative milestone, Somalia’s Parliament officially ratified the EASF Establishment Agreement on December 3, 2025.
This action demonstrates Somalia’s commitment to actively participating in the security and stability mechanisms of East Africa.
The agenda for the summit included a comprehensive review of the implementation of previous decisions, an analysis of lessons learned from recent military exercises, and the presentation of audit results. Key administrative outcomes focused on the review of the EASF Action Plan for 2025 and the Budget and Action Plan for the fiscal year 2026.
In his closing remarks, the Defense Minister called on member states to strengthen unity and cooperation, emphasizing the importance of a cohesive approach to transform the EASF into a responsive and capable institution.
