Senegalese Federation Appeals AFCON Title Decision. Dakar, Senegal — 2026-03-18 The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has announced its intention to appeal the decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to strip the national team of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.
The FSF described the ruling, which awarded the title to host nation Morocco, as “unfair, unprecedented, and unacceptable.
Officials commented on the matter.
The FSF maintains that the decision “discredits African football “and plans to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland, which typically takes a year to deliver a verdict.
The CAF cited article 82 of the tournament regulations for its ruling, which states that any team withdrawing from the competition, refusing to play, or leaving the field without referee authorization is considered the loser and eliminated from the competition.
However, this article was not cited in the first hearing of the appeal.
In a statement, the FSF reaffirmed its commitment to the values of integrity and sporting justice and assured the public that it would keep them informed of the developments in the matter.
The FSF’s decision to appeal marks a significant challenge to the CAF’s ruling and could lead to further scrutiny of the incident and the process by which the appeals were handled.
Senegal’s supporters have expressed their solidarity with the national team, with many taking to social media to voice their discontent and demand transparency. Further details regarding the appeal process and any potential impact on the FSF’s relationship with the CAF are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
