Saint — Denis, France – Senegal’s football squad rode an open-top bus around Stade de France on Friday, holding the Africa Cup of Nations trophy aloft, five days after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) annulled their final win over Morocco.
Authorities stripped Senegal of the title on 4 August, ruling they had fielded a suspended player in the 2-1 victory in Abidjan. CAF has not yet named a new champion and has taken no further disciplinary steps.
Friday’s event, organised weeks earlier to honour Senegal’s diaspora, went ahead unchanged. No reference to the disqualification was made inside the 75,000-seat arena, where fans chanted player names and waved national colours.
Moroccan officials praised CAF’s decision and have asked for formal confirmation of a replacement winner. Burkina Faso, beaten semi-finalists, would inherit the cup if Senegal’s result becomes a forfeit. Senegal has not commented publicly on a possible appeal.
