Agadir — Rear Admiral Mohamed Tahin, Inspector of the Royal Moroccan Navy, and French Admiral Nicolas Vaujour met in Paris on Tuesday to discuss bolstering naval cooperation and addressing maritime security challenges. The dialogue, attended by senior naval officials from both countries, aimed to enhance existing coordination and map out future collaborative efforts in the Atlantic and Mediterranean regions.
Admiral Vaujour, echoing his remarks on X, underscored the “already solid partnership “between the navies, emphasizing a foundation of trust and consistent cooperation. The talks covered a spectrum of joint missions and shared strategies, with a focus on bolstering global maritime security, particularly along critical trade routes linking Europe and Africa.
The Paris gathering also reviewed Morocco’s recent participation in ORION 26, a major international military exercise coordinated by France. The drill, which involved personnel from various allied nations, sought to enhance readiness for high-intensity and unconventional conflicts. Admiral Vaujour highlighted the inclusion of the Royal Moroccan Navy in ORION 26 as a testament to the navies’mutual aim to improve their operational interoperability.
The meeting in Paris is part of Morocco’s broader strategy to expand defense cooperation at a high level and to reinforce its military capabilities. In 2023, the Royal Moroccan Navy engaged in a two-week joint exercise with the US Navy at the Port of Casablanca, focusing on port security and hydrographic surveying. This exercise included underwater facility inspections and mapping of the Casablanca coastline, underscoring Morocco’s role as a pivotal partner in international maritime safety.
The Paris dialogue reflects the deepening defense ties between Rabat and Paris amidst shifting and often unpredictable regional security landscapes. Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces are actively participating in international training and adopting global tactics to align with NATO standards, demonstrating a commitment to modernization and enhanced security.
