Khartoum, Sudan — April 22, 2026 — Amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Chad, Qatar Charity has stepped forward to provide vital food assistance to the Gaoui refugee camp, where the needs of Sudanese refugees are acute.
In a coordinated effort with the National Commission for the Reception and Reintegration of Refugees and Returnees (CNARR), Qatar Charity has distributed food baskets to 656 households, each basket containing staple items to sustain the basic needs of a family for about a month. This timely intervention comes as many refugees in the camp rely heavily on humanitarian aid for their daily food requirements.
The distribution event was attended by local authorities and community leaders, ensuring that the assistance reached the most vulnerable families efficiently and transparently. Mr. Idriss Mahamat Ali Abdallah, Permanent Secretary of CNARR, commended Qatar Charity’s ongoing support, emphasizing the importance of sustaining these efforts as the displacement crisis deepens in Chad.
Gaoui village leader, Mr. Hassan Abdallah Mohamed, expressed gratitude for the initiative, highlighting the role of donors from the State of Qatar in supporting refugees. He called for additional humanitarian efforts to alleviate the burden of displacement on affected families.
For Maryam, a widowed refugee with orphaned children, the food basket arrived at a critical moment, providing relief after her family had exhausted all means of support. Her story is one of many that underscores the vital role of such assistance in ensuring a minimum level of stability and dignity for the most vulnerable in the camp.
The humanitarian situation in Chad is dire, with over 1. 2 million refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) hosting most of them from Sudan and neighboring countries.
The presence of limited resources, widespread poverty, and food insecurity in the camps necessitates such food assistance to maintain a dignified living standard for the affected communities.
As the international community grapples with the funding gap, the collaborative efforts between Qatar Charity and CNARR exemplify the collaborative approach required to address the complex humanitarian challenges in the region.
