LIBREVILLE, Gabon — March 27, 2026 — The Gabonese Football Federation (Fégafoot) has announced that Pierre-Alain Mounguengui is the sole candidate cleared for the upcoming presidential election, set for April 18.
The Commission électorale conducted a thorough review of Mounguengui’s application, which included all necessary documents. The candidate received 27 endorsements, spanning ten first-division clubs, six second-division clubs, two sports associations, and nine provincial leagues.
However, the commission disqualified three other candidates — Dr. Axel Nguema Edou, Gabin Zogo Minsta, and Darneau Essia Ndong—due to various irregularities, including the absence of criminal records for running mates, the lack of sports resumes, the absence of endorsement proof, and the failure to pay the required deposit.
This decision leaves Mounguengui as the sole contender for the Fégafoot presidency, a position that has been a subject of local football community interest, with many hoping for leadership change to enhance the sport’s performance and governance in Gabon.
