Abuja, Nigeria — March 27, 2026.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction under Tanimu Turaki has decried the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 elections, calling it “immoral and unjust.”National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong made this statement on Friday during an interview on Arise Television.
In a bid to restore unity, the Turaki faction has called for a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to discuss reconciliation terms with the faction led by Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike. Ememobong expressed hope that logic would guide the reconciliation process, aiming to reinforce the PDP’s role as an opposition party.
Separately, Turaki has lodged an appeal against a bench warrant issued against him by a federal high court in Abuja. The warrant was issued for his failure to appear in court on charges of providing false information to the police. His legal team has filed an appeal and a request for a stay of execution on the warrant.
The NEC meeting, scheduled for Friday, is expected to review the reconciliation terms and determine the PDP’s participation in the presidential election. The NEC will also address the harmonization of office positions, as state-level executive offices remain in place.
The Turaki faction’s stance against the Tinubu endorsement and its pursuit of reconciliation could have a significant impact on the internal dynamics of the PDP. More details on the reconciliation process and the party’s election strategy are anticipated in the near future.
