LAGOS, NIGERIA — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Tanimu Turaki has firmly rejected the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 general election, describing it as “immoral and unjust.”National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong conveyed this stance during a recent interview on The Morning Show on Arise Television.
In pursuit of unity, the Turaki faction has initiated a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to negotiate reconciliation terms with the faction led by Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike. The NEC is scheduled to review reconciliation terms and determine the party’s involvement in the presidential election.
Furthermore, Turaki has lodged an appeal against a bench warrant issued by a federal high court in Abuja. The warrant was issued due to his absence in court for a charge of providing false information to the police in a 2022 petition. Turaki’s legal team has filed an appeal and requested a stay of execution against the warrant. Ememobong expressed hope that the reconciliation process would be logical rather than emotional, emphasizing the Turaki-led faction’s commitment to enhancing the party’s opposition role.
The faction aims to ensure that any reconciliation does not diminish the party’s status. The ongoing developments within the PDP reflect the complex political dynamics in Nigeria, where internal party strife can significantly impact the nation’s political future. Further details and the outcome of the NEC meeting are anticipated in the near future.
