Nigeria’s President Pledges Enhanced Security Measures Following Maiduguri Attacks. Maiduguri, Nigeria — Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has vowed to intensify security measures in the wake of a series of deadly attacks in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
In a statement posted on his official X page, President Tinubu expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and assured the people of Borno of his government’s solidarity.
The attacks, which occurred on Monday evening, targeted busy areas including a market, a post office vicinity, and the entrance to a teaching hospital.
The Nigerian military warned that suspected militants linked to Boko Haram may have deployed multiple suicide bombers in the city, urging residents to avoid crowded places and remain vigilant. At least 23 people were killed, and more than 100 were injured in the coordinated blasts, authorities reported.
In response, President Tinubu ordered the deployment of additional military equipment and operational support. He also directed top security officials to relocate to Maiduguri to oversee the response and mobilized emergency agencies to assist the victims. “The government will intensify efforts to dismantle armed groups across the country,” President Tinubu stated.
He praised the troops for successfully repelling coordinated assaults on military positions in Maiduguri and confirmed that bomb disposal units had secured the affected sites and conducted sweep operations to prevent further threats. Regional officials confirmed that investigations into the incidents are ongoing, and efforts are being made to prevent additional attacks in the region.
The president’s promise to enhance security measures comes as Maiduguri continues to face the brunt of the ongoing insurgency.
Further details regarding the investigation and the government’s long-term strategy are expected to be released in the coming days.
