Lagos, Nigeria — President Bola Tinubu has emphasized the indispensable role of traditional rulers in peacebuilding and grassroots stability, calling for their active engagement as frontline agents amidst rising security challenges. During the launch of the autobiography of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Oba (Dr) Samuel Olu Falae, in Lagos on Friday, Tinubu highlighted the significance of traditional institutions in governance, especially during periods of heightened security threats and social fragmentation.
The president emphasized that royal fathers are the linchpin between government and the grassroots, urging their palaces to serve as focal points for peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and moral guidance. He tasked traditional rulers to address security challenges and foster unity across diverse communities, emphasizing that their roles extend beyond ceremonial duties to include acting as stabilizing forces in their respective domains.
Tinubu also appealed to monarchs to encourage dialogue, discourage violence, and strengthen social cohesion within their realms. He described the event, attended by political leaders, traditional rulers, and the diplomatic community, as a reflection on leadership and national ethos, lauding Oba Falae’s contributions to public service, economic management, and cultural leadership. The president assured that his administration would continue to strengthen collaboration with traditional institutions to enhance security, social harmony, and grassroots development.
