Lagos, Nigeria — President Bola Tinubu has emphasized the critical role of traditional rulers in Nigeria’s peacebuilding efforts amidst escalating security challenges. Speaking at the launch of the autobiography of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Oba (Dr) Samuel Olu Falae, in Lagos, Tinubu highlighted the importance of these leaders as intermediaries between the government and the grassroots.
Tinubu, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, stressed that traditional institutions are indispensable in governance, particularly during periods of social fragmentation and heightened security threats. He underlined the need for traditional rulers to act as peacebuilding centers and conflict resolution hubs within their realms.
The President also tasked the traditional rulers with actively engaging in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges and promoting unity among diverse communities. “Peace and security are not solely the responsibility of government; they are collective duties, “he stated.
The event, attended by political leaders, traditional rulers, and members of the diplomatic community, was a reflection on leadership, service, and national ethos. Tinubu praised Oba Falae as a bridge between tradition and modern governance, acknowledging his contributions to public service, economic management, and cultural leadership. He assured that his administration would continue to collaborate with traditional institutions to enhance security, social harmony, and grassroots development.
