Maputo, Mozambique — Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi is set to embark on a visit to Paris, France, for a high-level meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron. The trip, scheduled for late March, will focus on regional security and energy cooperation, particularly in the context of the upcoming Rovuma LNG project launch.
According to Africa Intelligence, the meeting aims to strengthen bilateral relations and address the security situation in Cabo Delgado, where European energy companies, including TotalEnergies, are active. The Rovuma LNG project, a joint venture between Mozambique, ExxonMobil, and ENI, is poised to significantly impact the country’s economy.
The restart of the Mozambique LNG project, delayed by technical issues, is also expected to be a key topic. During the visit, Mozambican diplomat Sarah Troutman, responsible for economic and trade matters, will advocate for U. S. Economic interests in advance of important investment decisions by ExxonMobil.
Nyusi’s visit underscores the importance of international partnerships in Mozambique’s energy sector as the nation seeks to diversify its economy and reduce reliance on agriculture. Following his Paris trip, Nyusi will proceed to Brussels to discuss the security situation in Cabo Delgado, where an ongoing insurgency has displaced thousands and disrupted local economies.
The trip represents a strategic move by Mozambique to engage with key international partners on security and economic development, aiming to bolster the country’s position as a significant player in the global energy market.
