French Tourist Found Dead in Chad’s Sahara After Desert Search. City, Country — N’Djamena, Chad — The body of a French tourist, Paul Ferreri, has been discovered in the remote Ennedi region of northeastern Chad, following a two-day search operation in the Sahara Desert.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, Ferreri was found dead and the cause of death has not yet been determined.
Ferreri, who had traveled to Chad to attend the 6th International Festival of Saharan Cultures, was reported missing after he and another tourist left a tourist camp near Bachikele on Monday.
The second tourist, whose identity has not been released, returned to the camp on Wednesday and explained that he had become disoriented while attempting to return to the camp.
The Ennedi region, where Ferreri was found, is a mountainous area of the Sahara Desert that borders Sudan and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The festival, which is held in the town of Amdjarass, brings together artists from across the region to celebrate traditional Saharan culture. France’s Foreign Ministry has been closely monitoring the situation and remains in regular contact with local authorities.
In a statement, the ministry said it was awaiting further information from Chadian officials.
Regional officials confirmed that they are maintaining close coordination with French authorities and will provide additional information as it becomes available.
The search operation involved local and international teams working together to locate Ferreri. Further details regarding the circumstances of Ferreri’s death and the ongoing investigation are expected to be released in the coming days.
