Training Concludes for Intensive Rice Farming System in Gabon’s Estuaire Province. KOUGOULEU, Gabon – The second phase of training in the intensive rice farming system came to a close on April 24, 2026, at the Kougouleu Rice Experimentation Station in the Komo-Mondah department, within the Estuaire province (northwest), according to the Gabonese Press Agency.
The objective of the training, which commenced on April 20, was to identify and train existing cooperatives in the province to adopt advanced rice farming practices. Michel Enrick Ollomo Nguema, the head of the Agricultural Council and support to professional agricultural organizations, confirmed the success of the initiative, stating that additional support programs would be gradually introduced leading up to the production phase.
The Director — General of Agriculture highlighted the importance of rice consumption among all social classes in Gabon, noting the need to overcome challenges to produce local rice. He emphasized the homologation of rice varieties suitable for the country’s agro-ecological conditions as the starting point for a significant journey towards self-sufficiency. Rachel Manfoumbi, a participant, expressed satisfaction with the progress made, noting the transformation from non-homologated products to those now adapted to local soils.
